Round Mountain Gold Corp., which produced more than 510,000 ounces of gold last year at its Nye County location, is being honored as the state's 1998 Southern Nevada Distinguished Business.
Gov. Kenny Guinn will present the award at the 15th annual governor's industry appreciation luncheon Thursday at the MGM Grand hotel-casino in Las Vegas.
Round Mountain, which also produced 350,000 ounces of silver and employs 700 workers, is a subsidiary of Echo Bay Mines. The Nye County mine is a joint venture with Homestake Mining Co. and Case, Pomeroy & Co.
The keynote speech at the luncheon will be given by Jay Kent Taylor, president and chief executive officer of Placer Dome U.S., one of the largest gold mining companies in the world.
