Editorial: There’s still time to head to the polls
Tuesday, June 8, 1999 | 9:52 a.m.
Even the Las Vegas mayor's race between defense attorney Oscar Goodman and Las Vegas City Councilman Arnie Adamsen, which has generated considerable national and local attention, may not bring voters to the polls: The Las Vegas city clerk estimates only 27 percent of all eligible voters will cast their ballots. It's not as if voting has been made inconvenient. After all, early voting allows ballots to be cast at a variety of satellite locations prior to the election. While municipal elections may not generate the same type of excitement as presidential or statewide elections, the fact remains that municipal governments typically have the greatest impact on citizens' lives.
For those registered voters who live in Las Vegas, Boulder City and North Las Vegas but haven't cast their ballots yet, the polls don't close until 7 p.m. That's more than enough time to get to the polls and make sure that you make a lasting impact on this year's municipal races.
