Letter: Writer in no spot to criticize other

Thursday, June 3, 1999 | 11:40 a.m.

Perna believes he is politically literate. He believes he has achieved a certain level of wisdom, politically, and proceeds to advise Dan Oliver -- to think?

Self righteousness is so predictable!

Mr. Perna, you failed to disclose which programs with "both a left and a right bent" gave you such an insight. "Crossfire"? The television program has yet to resolve a single issue -- the hosts remain diametrically opposed. Cable news? Chris Matthews, Bay Buchanan, Larry King? Just don't think so, Mr. Perna.

You have negated Olivier's ability to "make choices" if he votes. Wanna bet Olivier's choices are based on fact and research and that he votes in each and every election? And no, I've never met the man.

Olivier has given coherent and credible reasons to reinforce his opinions, while your letter has no point.

As to the truth, what is the truth? Do you know? Is it Ken Starr's or Henry Hyde's or Bob Barr's, Bob Livingston's or Newt Gingrich's? Does the truth reside in the 13 House managers? In Trent Lott or Orrin Hatch? Is the truth in all the bills in our Nevada Legislature that "failed in committee"? Is the truth in the fact that of all the industrialized nations of the world, this country is the only one that does not provide its citizens with health insurance?

Mr. Perna, if you have eyes, see. If you have ears, hear. If you have understanding, understand. When you have accomplished that, then you may criticize Olivier.
