Campaigners booted from mall property

Wednesday, June 2, 1999 | 10:06 a.m.

Supporters of Municipal Court candidate Bert Brown stopped their campaigning earlier than planned on Monday when confronted by Meadows mall security.

Brown supporters were walking with campaign signs along the sidewalk on Meadows Lane near the mall when they say they were approached by security and told they could not campaign on mall property.

"The supporters told me they were about 30 feet from a mall entrance in front of a vacant lot just to the west of the mall," Brown said. "They said security told them the mall owned the lot, so that group of supporters packed up early and went home."

A mall spokesman said the guards were simply enforcing a private property owner's rights and asked that the supporters move off mall property to express their political opinions.
