State business director dies at 51

Tuesday, June 1, 1999 | 12:13 p.m.

Dan Tom, who took over as director of the State Department of Business and Industry in February, died unexpectedly at his Las Vegas home Monday night.

He was 51 years old.

Tom, a close associate of Gov. Kenny Guinn, was senior credit administrative officer with Norwest Bank in Minneapolis, Minn., before being named to his job of overseeing some 20 agencies.

A spokesman for Guinn said Tom was working on his computer when he collapsed and died. Cause of death was not immediately known but he had not suffered any recent health problems.

Tom and Guinn had worked together at PriMerit Bank in Las Vegas before it was taken over by Norwest.

He is survived by his widow, Charleen, son John, 14, and 9-year-old twins Ted and Russell. Other survivors include his father, Ted Tom, who lives in Indiana; two brothers, Fred and Paul, and a sister, Susan Lallah.
