Reid, Bryan, Berkley cite sacrifices
Tuesday, June 1, 1999 | 2:10 a.m.
Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., asked that everyone remember "those who died for our freedom" or were willing to do so.
Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., said each generation has a responsibility to remind the next of the sacrifices of America's veterans.
"We live in a cynical and jaded world ... but those men and women died so that we could experience freedom," Bryan told veterans and families gathered for Monday's services.
Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, said the greatest thing people can do to honor those who made the "ultimate sacrifice" is to honor "the promises they made to the living," to ensure that their fight was not in vain.
World War II veteran Ken Brown, who purchased and donated the land for the cemetery with his late wife Lorraine in 1987, said he was overwhelmed by the attendance of veterans and their families at Monday's service.
