Volunteers sought for event in Ireland

The Arthritis Foundation is looking for volunteers to travel to Ireland to participate in the 17th annual Dublin Marathon Oct 25.

The foundation will pay for airfare, accommodations, transportation, meals and running-related expenses for members of the Dublin Challenge Training Team.

Participants must collect a minimum of $4,000 in donations and be able to complete the 26.2-mile race or provide team support. For more information, call 367-1626.

Bus service wins national safety award

Citizen Area Transit, the valley's bus service operated by the Regional Transportation Commission of Clark County, received the Silver Award in the William T. Coleman Award category of the 1999 American Public Transit Association's Bus Safety Award Competition.

This is the second consecutive year that RTC has been selected as one of the nation's safest transit systems.

The award is determined from accident records, descriptions of the transit system's safety program, and factors such as weather, population, miles of service provided and traffic conditions.

Two employees honored for service

UNLV recently recognized two employees for jobs well done. Anthropology professor John Swetnam was selected as 1999's Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year by the Alumni Association.

Michele Taylor, UNLV's director of community development, was awarded the President's Outstanding Professional Staff Member of the Year Award for 1999.

Grant received for drug program

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety has been awarded a $600,000 federal grant to aid drug-addicted offenders in Clark County and those at the Caliente Correctional Facility.

Immunizations

Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 36 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week: Wednesday through June 8.

NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 3262 Civic Center Drive, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

BOULDER CITY CLINIC: Multi-Purpose Building, 1204 6th St., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m., Wednesday.

MEADOWS VILLAGE CLINIC: Chester W. Stupak Community Center, 300 W. Boston Ave., 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday.

GREEN VALLEY CLINIC: Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway, 9 a.m. - noon and 1-3:30 Friday.

CHEYENNE I-3 CLINIC: Centers for Healthy Families, 3160 Las Vegas Blvd. North, No. 12, 9 a.m.-noon Friday.
