Board member quits; shipments up

Tuesday, June 1, 1999 | 10:56 a.m.

A member of Alliance Gaming's board of directors has resigned while product shipments have picked up and other investments are starting to pay off for the Las Vegas company.

Morton Topfer, vice chairman of Dell Computer Corp., has left the Alliance board, citing expanded international commitments and travel at Dell. Alliance officials have not announced a replacement.

A company spokesman said the board would meet to determine how the vacancy would be filled.

The company also said it is picking up momentum on other business fronts, including the expansion of its slot management system installation capabilities.

Morry Goldstein, president and chief executive officer, said it has added three installation teams to the two that had been in place. Shipments of the company's SDS Slot Management System for the company's June quarter will exceed the company's normal six-month volume, Goldstein said.

In addition, the Las Vegas-based company that produces the Bally Gaming slot machines said new contracts and regulatory approvals are expected to pay off in future months.

Alliance has received its first order from Australia and is expected to ship machines in the September quarter. It also has received an order for 425 machines -- 100 percent of the casino floor -- from a tribe in Washington state.
