Local hands greet travelers

Reno, Nev. - Two-thousand-sixty waving hands now greet travelers as they come and go at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
The hands make up a mural on the airport parking garage.
The project, called "Hello/Goodbye," was created by University of Nevada, Reno art professor Joe DeLappe.
DeLappe traveled around the region last year, taking digital photos of hands and getting people's written "hellos" and "goodbyes."
The photos and handwritings were superimposed onto different types of backgrounds, like clouds and sagebrush. Each photo was then transferred onto a 10-inch glass tile.
The tiles were then glued onto the parking garage wall to create an 88-foot by 20-foot mural.
DeLappe said he is compiling a guide for the mural, so that owners of the posed hands will be able to find them.
