Editorial: Going extra mile not to be missed
Friday, July 30, 1999 | 10:30 a.m.
As a postscript to the July 8 flood we would be remiss if we did not tip our hat to Clark County Commissioner Myrna Williams. She literally went the extra mile by helping the grateful residents of Miracle Mile Trailer Park on Boulder Highway, which is in her district.
The trailer park suffered extensive flood damage, but the commissioner eased the pain of its residents by repeatedly going door to door and then working behind the scenes to secure local government assistance for the battered property. The residents showed their appreciation by gathering 63 signatures on a petition expressing their thanks to her.
Williams coordinated a clean-up crew of Mormon Church volunteers who removed trash and mud around the trailers. The commissioner also brought in a crew of carpenters who, at no cost to the residents, performed repairs on the trailers with the worst water damage. She is also working on the residents' behalf to help correct deficiencies in the Flamingo Wash, which affects the park.
The actions taken by Williams show what true leadership is all about. Some people around town do nothing else but trash elected officials. They do a disservice by ignoring the many good deeds of leaders such as Williams.
