Back-to-school

The sixth annual Valley Health System Baby and Family Lifestyle Expo, featuring more than 100 booths geared toward the family, will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Cashman Center, Halls A and B. It is running in conjunction with the Community College of Southern Nevada's Back-To-School Fair. Admission is free. Call 889-7343.

Tykes, mixed media

Qualita Fine Art at the Venetian Grand Canal Shoppes, 3355 Las Vegas Blvd. South, presents "Summer Pleasures," an exhibit of paintings, sculptures, photographs and glass works by more than 20 artists.

Music, dance

Mitch Chambers and the Gospel Tornadoes will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North, as part of its Sunday music series focusing on gospel music, dancing and storytelling. The series accompanies the exhibit, "Wade in the Water: African-American Sacred Music Traditions." Admission is $5 for adults; $4 for children, seniors and military. Call 382-3445.

Health, beauty tips

More than 50 local salons, retailers and makeup professionals will provide fashion and beauty tips at the "Mix Mile of Style," 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday at the Alexis Park Hotel, 375 E. Harmon Ave. Hosted by KMXB 94.1-FM, the event will feature live entertainment, fashion shows and hair and makeup demonstrations. Admission is $5. Call 889-5115.

Little Theatre

The Las Vegas Little Theatre will hold open auditions for the first show of its season, "Butterflies Are Free," by Leonard Gerseh, 1-5 p.m. Saturday at 3844 Schiff Drive. Roles are available for one man, age 25-30; one woman, age 19-24; one woman over age 45; and one man, age 20-25. The ability to play guitar and sing are preferred but not mandatory. The seventh annual Las Vegas Music Festival will be Sunday through Aug. 14 at UNLV, the Clark County Library Theater, Summerlin Library Theater and Artemus Ham Concert Hall. General admission is $5. Call 895-2787 for show times, performers and locations.

Students perform

Artists, dancers, actors and musicians from UNLV's College of Fine Arts will participate in the 51st Edinburgh Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in August. Scheduled are Rocky Winslow and the UNLV Jazz Quintet; the musical "Las Vegas at Large," with book and lyrics by student Robert Knight and music by student Peter Clark; "Slipping Him the Tongue"; "Once Upon a Time," choreographed by dance faculty members and performed by students; "Last Lists of My Mad Mother" by faculty member Julie Jensen; and "Loving Las Vegas," featuring art works by students.

Broadway blowout

Music from the "Lion King," "Ragtime" and "Miss Saigon" will be performed as part of the Reid Shelton Production Company's "Broadway Cavalcade" at 8 p.m. today and Saturday at the Rainbow Library Amphitheatre, 3150 N.
