Two closed casinos to be razed

Thursday, July 29, 1999 | 11:54 a.m.

RENO -- Preparations are being made to raze two closed downtown Reno casinos.

Harrah's Reno bought the boarded up Harolds and Nevada clubs in June. Now, Harrah's is making arrangements to demolish the two buildings, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported Wednesday.

"Our plans are to demolish both," Harrah's spokeswoman Kerri Garcia said.

"I cannot say if it will happen in one, two or three months," she added.

Casino officials also have not said what plans they have for the property.

The Nevada Club opened in 1946 and shut down in December 1997.

Harolds Club was one of Reno's best known casino. It opened in 1935 and shut down March 1995.
