Letter: Locals can force prices to drop

She said the prices are too high, and the people of Nevada should tell our elected officials to make them lower their prices and give the locals a reduced rate. I agree with her that the prices are too high but I do not think she knows much about business.
The politicians have nothing to do with telling the hotels how to run their businesses and what they should charge. I also don't think locals should be treated any different than tourists.
Margaret, this is called the law of supply and demand. As long as people keep paying these ridiculous prices, the casinos will keep getting top dollar.
But there is a way to get these prices reduced. If enough people quit patronizing these places, the prices will come down. The public can control the prices.
As for New Year's Eve, most locals that I know avoid the Strip and Fremont Street. They go to a neighborood bar or preferably have a party at home.
Leave the drunks and the crowds for the tourists. It is a lot safer.
