Fishing report — Las Vegas area — July 29, 1999

Thursday, July 29, 1999 | 10:20 a.m.

LAKE MEAD: Striped bass fishing continues to be fair for boaters while shore anglers continue to have little reason for optimism, according to the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

Boaters are finding fish in deep water in Las Vegas Bay and are connecting with fish by trolling and drifting with baits. Some of the better action has been taking place around Sand Island.

A boater who was fishing near Fish Island in the Overton Arm reported that he managed to catch just one striper during an outing last week. One interesting catch was a rainbow trout that was taken over the weekend in the Overton Arm.

About the only success that shore anglers have had for stripers in recent days has been at Las Vegas Wash.

LAKE MOHAVE: Boaters continue to catch striped bass that range from 14 to 16 inches from the 28 mile marker to Owl's Point. Shore fishing has been slow for stripers.

Rainbow trout fishing is fair for shore anglers at Willow Beach due to recent plants. Willow Beach Hatchery is scheduled to stock nearly 5,000 rainbow trout by barge today at the 45 mile marker, approximately seven miles below Willow Beach.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Rainbow trout fishing is fair despite weed growth that has formed around the edge of the lake. Weed growth is particularly heavy around the boat dock.
