Sprint-car series expanded

Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials announced the Pennzoil World of Outlaws' schedule has expanded to three nights in November. The season finale for the sprint-car series now has been scheduled as a three-day event Nov. 1-3.
"The Pennzoil World of Outlaws generated a tremendous amount of excitement when they visited our speedway in March," LVMS general manager Chris Powell said. "We're extremely happy for the fans to have an additional night to enjoy the fastest dirt-track racing in the country."
On the first two nights, fans will see full race programs with all drivers attempting to qualify for the grand finale, which will be held Wednesday night.
The series concludes each year in Las Vegas, making this event the final race for the championship.
"The three-day show could make a big change in the points chase," Steve Kinser, 15-time World of Outlaws champion, said. "We get half points on the first two days and full points on the third day, so there is an opportunity for a bigger swing one way or the other."
The decision to add an extra day to the schedule was an easy one, according to Ted Johnson, founder and vice president of the WoO.
"The attractions in Las Vegas are great reasons to end the season here," Johnson said. "The major reason, though, is the speedway. The cars go 130 mph on average; it is very competitive."
Tickets for the World of Outlaws event are now on sale at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway ticket office.
