Harrah's Entertainment Inc., the second-largest U.S. gambling company, said all of its casino properties will participate in next week's second annual Responsible Gaming Education Week. Harrah's operates Harrah's, Rio and Showboat hotel-casinos.
The American Gaming Association has designated the first week of August as Responsible Gaming Education Week to draw attention to the issue of problem gambling and to promote the programs available to help problem gamblers.
The Memphis-based Harrah's, which is moving its headquarters to Las Vegas, said it produced new responsible gaming information brochures and new posters targeting the prevention of underage gambling as part of the company's "Project 21" program.
Harrah's is also re-releasing a television Public Service Announcement that advocates the use of the national toll-free help line for those dealing with gambling problems.
And Harrah's is hosting a four-hour, call-in telephone program for its 35,000 employees across the nation to ask questions or seek information from the executive director of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, Carol O'Hare.
"Harrah's has been committed to responsible gaming awareness and education for more than 10 years," said Entertainment Director of Public Affairs Mary Jane Fuller.
