Mikohn Gaming Corp. of Las Vegas said it gained a license from Hasbro Inc. for development of a new casino table game based on the Monopoly game, the world's most popular board game. The Monopoly Poker casino game is expected to debut in casinos later this year.
By accumulating railroads, utilities or color groups, players may win up to 125 times their wager. For an additional $1 wager, players may win all or part of a progressive jackpot.
The game, dealt on a blackjack style table, is based on a deck of 50 Monopoly Poker playing cards. Players seek to collect cards representing a series of classic Monopoly game properties, utilities or railroads. Hotel and house cards offer bonus multipliers. Community Chest and Chance cards are wild, and Monopoly token cards like the shoe and hat provide the player with a no-lose pass if the token card matches the player's betting spot.
An estimated 480 million people have played Monopoly since the mid 1930s; and WMS Industries Inc. of Chicago has developed a popular Monopoly slot machine.
