Letter: Seek alternative to putting subway under the Strip
Monday, July 26, 1999 | 9:40 a.m.
It's less costly to keep our feet on the ground and utilize existing rights of way.
I agree with Putro's proposed stops, as long as we can avoid the area near the Charleston underpass. However, there is enough wasted space in the core of the Strip to construct a two-way level system from here to there. All we have to do is cut down on park maintenance and remove shrubs and palm trees. There are plenty of them around the Mirage.
Let's face it. Our public servants cannot compete with the casinos, who after all have to pay the bill for excess fancy and frill.
