Letter: Fire department worth extra taxes

I suppose the answer would be a gasoline spill, as mentioned in a recent article, but when the response is by a unit similar to AMR's, is it equipped with the "Jaws of Life" and equipment needed to extinguish a fire? I doubt it.
I personally would not object to paying a higher tax to support the fire department. I feel we have one of the finest departments in the country.
If the fire department's paramedics are first on the scene, I feel that they should transport, and that they should do so at no charge to the injured. If there is to be a charge, I think the decision should be made by the voters.
