Workshop offered at St. Rose Dominican

Training on diabetes is being offered by appointment 6 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday by Dottie Stade, R.N., in the Education Department of St. Rose Dominican Hospital, 98 E. Lake Mead Drive, Henderson. Stade will teach those with diabetes principles of self-management and how reduce or prevent complications. Call 564-2622, Ext. 4107 or 564-4557.

Dinner to honor NLV volunteers

Volunteers from the James Seastrand Helping Hands of North Las Vegas will be honored with a dinner Wednesday at Lake Mead Hospital Medical Center.

The James Seastrand Helping Hands of North Las Vegas is a volunteer group that provides assistance to senior citizens in North Las Vegas by doing household chores and driving them to medical appointments.

Programs scheduled for youths, adults

Clark County libraries are holding a variety of special programs. Call ahead to find out which programs require pre-registration.

On Stage -- Preschoolers are invited to a puppet show at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Summer Swing Seminar -- Young adults and older can learn some beginning Swing steps at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.

Rape-prevention course planned

The Henderson Police Department, in conjunction with St. Rose Dominican Hospital, is presenting a rape prevention class at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite No. 140 to teach women how to protect themselves and reduce the risk of harm.

Teens and adults are encouraged to attend this class. Call 914-7060.

Student honors

Natalie M. La Mantia of Henderson has been accepted for a year of study at the Dalian University of Foreign Languages in Dalian, China, with Brethren Colleges Abroad. Natalie is a student at Scripps College.

Robert Michael Weber of Las Vegas has been awarded the Byron Morris Scholarship from The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. The scholarship is awarded to students demonstrating significant community service activities or leadership.
