Arraignment set for 3 suspects in Summerlin slaying

Monday, July 26, 1999 | 11:14 a.m.

A July 29 arraignment date has been set for three men indicted Friday by a Clark County grand jury on murder charges in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in the exclusive Summerlin area.

The slaying, the first in Summerlin in five years, was the result of an ongoing feud, according to authorities.

The July 9 incident began after the defendants twice drove by the home of one rival, Jessie Jesus Gutierrez, before tracking him and Deangelo Jackson to Summerlin Parkway and Rampart Boulevard, where the shooting occurred, the indictment stated.

The indictment charges Adam Aguilar, 22, Ismael Vargas, 19, and Eliodoro Cabrera Jr., 20, with conspiracy to commit murder, murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm into a vehicle.

Jackson, of North Las Vegas, died in a hail of bullets fired by a man who ran to the car where Jackson was sitting and opened fire with a 9mm pistol. Gutierrez, 19, who was in the back seat, was shot in the leg.

The driver of the victims' vehicle was uninjured and drove to a friend's house to call for medical help. When paramedics arrived, Jackson was dead.

The indictment alleges Aguilar was the shooter and the other defendants aided and abetted the fatal confrontation that involved at least 10 shots being fired through the passenger side window where Jackson was sitting.

The car carrying the defendants sped north on Rampart Boulevard. A Metro traffic officer who was unaware of the shooting pursued the car because of its speed.

One of the defendants threw a weapon from the vehicle as it fled, the indictment charged.

The trio abandoned the car at Buffalo and Vegas drives and fled on foot, but were caught by officers.

The case proceeds directly to District Judge John McGroarty's courtroom for the arraignment.
