Sacred traditions

Jesse Gaston and the Gaston Five will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North, as part of the Sunday music series focusing on gospel music, dancing and storytelling. The series accompanies the exhibit "Wade in the Water: African-American Sacred Music Traditions." Admission is $5 for adults; $4 for children, seniors and military. Call 382-3445.

Time to play

The Blockbuster Video and Nintendo Summer Game Truck events begin Thursday. Nintendo 64 Game Stations can be played for free at the Game Truck from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sante Fe hotel-casino, 4949 N. Rancho Drive; 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 30 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 1 at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North; and 4-10 p.m. Aug. 2 at Blockbuster Video, 5625 Rainbow Blvd.

Steel stories

"Art-A-Facts," the steel works of sculptor William Mikel Williams, will be on display at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd., Thursday through Sept. 14. Constructed from found materials, the sculptures are subjectives of pictographs created by American Indians and found throughout the Southwest. Call 647-2117.

Lip-sync

Joe Behar's Community Drama Workshop is holding auditions for its annual "Great Pretenders" presentation, a lip-sync performance on Sept. 4. at the Gold Coast hotel-casino. Auditions are open to performers of all ages and levels. Call 457-0234.

'There's a Place For Us'

A family is torn apart by the death of its eldest son in the the Las Vegas Little Theatre's presentation of "Ordinary People." Thirty years in song

Hollywood and Broadway star Dennis Cole will pay tribute to romance and nostalgia by singing hits such as "Love Is In the Air" and "Unforgettable" at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Starbright Theater at The Pinnacle at Sun City, 2215 Thomas Ryan Boulevard. Tickets are $7.

Broadway blowout

Music from the "Lion King," "Ragtime" and "Miss Saigon" will be performed in Reid Shelton Production Company's "Broadway Cavalcade" at 8 tonight and Saturday at the Rainbow Library Amphitheatre, 3150 N. Bluesfest

After the flood

Local musicians and poets will come together to raise money for Southern Nevada flood victims at 9 p.m. Saturday at Legends Lounge, 865 N. Lamb Boulevard, and 7 p.m. Sunday at Cafe Copioh, 4550 S. "A Perfect Balance," a multi-media adventure teaching children about art and the creative process, will be at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Boulevard North, at 2 and 7 p.m. today. The program celebrates the 100th birthday of Alexander Calder, the creator of the mobile. Admission is $3.

Fine arts and crafts

Local artists will display an array of paintings, pottery, crafts and home decorations at The Fine Arts & Crafts show from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today and Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Galleria at Sunset Mall, 1300 Sunset Road.
