David Newhan's two-run single keyed a four-run, third-inning uprising, pacing the Las Vegas Stars to a 5-3 victory over the Memphis Redbirds in a Pacific Coast League baseball game Thursday night.
The victory was the Stars' second straight and enabled Las Vegas to salvage a split of a four-game series at Memphis.
Wayne Kirby and Wiki Gonzales drew bases-loaded walks preceding Newhan's single in Las Vegas' decisive third inning.
Stan Spencer (2-3) picked up the win for the Stars, yielding all three Memphis runs and seven hits in five innings. Matt Whiteside pitched three scoreless innings of relief while Brandon Kolb notched his third save by logging a scoreless ninth.
The Stars will open a four-game series in Nashville tonight. Heath Murray will get the pitching nod for Las Vegas.
