Investigators think transients started fire
Thursday, July 22, 1999 | 10:49 a.m.
The blaze destroyed the aged building and a geothermal business office inside.
Reno fire inspector Bill Burney said it looks like the fire was set, rather than accidental, and transients frequent the area.
The building was owned by the Sands Regency Hotel-Casino, which used part of it as a storage site and leased some of it to Geothermal Development Associates as office space.
The building had 85-100 slot machines, carpet, wallpaper and old backup equipment no longer used at the hotel. Each department at the Sands is running an inventory of what it had stored in the building.
