Painting workshop to be held at rec center

A decorative tole painting workshop, sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. Participation is open to those 13 or older for $35.

Workshop participants will be taught the techniques of tole painting and decorating objects with acrylic paint. Instructors will demonstrate how to apply different strokes with round brushes, liners, angled or flat. Call 435-3814.

Meeting focuses on Legislature results

The Employers of Nevada General Membership meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. July 29 at the Palace Station hotel-casino, 2411 W. Sahara Ave., in the Round House Meeting Room on the second floor.

Pete Ernaut, chief of staff for Gov. Kenny Guinn, will discuss the results of the 1999 Legislature and how it will affect all businesses in Nevada for workers' compensation. The public is invited. Free activities open to children

Vacation Bible School is being offered for children ages 3-6 from 9:30-11 a.m. and kids first to fifth grades from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday through July 30 at the Warm Springs Baptist Church, 2075 E. Warm Springs Road.

Participants will discover the joy of using their talents through songs, skits, crafts, games, snacks and Bible studies.

The conclusion of the Bible school will be an outdoor festival from 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 31 at the Silver Springs Pool Complex in Green Valley. Admission is free. To register or for more information, call 361-7070.

Yucca environmental report discussed

The Clark County Nuclear Waste Division is sponsoring an open house from 3-8 p.m. July 29 at the Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, to review and explain the Yucca Mountain Draft Environmental Impact Statement document for interested members of the public.

Copies of the EIS will be available in print and on CD-ROM along with a summary of the document and will be issued the end of July. Call 455-5191.

Sessions planned for Wellspring Church

"The Joy of the Lord is My Strength" Vacation Bible School sessions will begin each evening at 6:30 p.m. beginning Monday and continuing through July 30 at the Wellspring Church and Christian Center, 1401 N. Decatur Blvd., Suite No. 18.

Winning entries to go on display at mall

KMZQ 100.5-FM, the Boulevard Mall and Prudential Americana Group Realtors will display the drawings of 20 Las Vegas student finalists in the "Create Your Own Dream Home for the New Millennium" contest.

Las Vegas students, grades kindergarten through 12 were asked to display their artistry and talent through drawings of their dream home.

The finalists' drawings will be displayed in the Boulevard Mall now through Aug. 1. Two grand prize winners will each received $1,000 in stock certificates from Prudential Americana Group, Realtors for Microsoft. Call 253-9800.

Wells Fargo, Norwest to give donations

Over the next nine weeks, Wells Fargo and Norwest will donate $1 to the Nevada Special Needs Adoption program for each new checking account opened in Nevada. The minimum Wells Fargo/Norwest donation is expected to be $10,000.

Special needs children may include those that are older, have disabilities, belong to a minority group or have siblings, according to the Division of Child and Family Services.

Neurologist named to board of directors

Gabriela Pugliese, a local neurologist, has been elected to the American Heart Association's Western States Affiliate board of directors.

Pugliese, who practices with the Nevada Neurological Consultants, has a strong interest in strokes.

New board members named to positions

The Las Vegas division of the American Heart Association has elected new board members for two years.

The members include Dr. Nicole Theuvenet, Kimberly Coon, Bob Frankenberg, Andy Katz, Jeanine Warren Newman, Mark Dodds, Diane Hughes, Claude Rosenthal, Patrick Wilde and Joe Marr.
