Bear shot after he broke into a home
Thursday, July 22, 1999 | 10:52 a.m.
Blondie - a bear given that name by people in the Meeks Bay and Rubicon Bay areas along Lake Tahoe's California shoreline - had a habit of wandering through the residential areas and helping himself to non-forest treats like bread and Pepsi.
But when Blondie broke in to one resident's house, the homeowner griped and Blondie's fate was sealed.
The bear was trapped and shot Monday night by a state fish and game worker despite efforts by the Bear Preservation League to stay the execution.
Problem bears are not relocated in California.
