Some 2.86 million people visited Las Vegas in May, an 8.5 percent increase from May 1998, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported.
The LVCVA said the increase equaled the city's increase in room inventory over the same period. Las Vegas had 114,966 hotel and motel rooms as of May, the LVCVA said.
Total room occupancy reached 88.3 percent, up 0.8 percent; while hotel occupancy was up 0.1 percent to 92.4 percent.
Occupied room nights were up 9.5 percent to 3.14 million.
Visitor volume has been climbing since September thanks largely to a series of resort openings including Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Venetian and the Resort at Summerlin. Still to open on the Strip are Paris and the new Aladdin.
