Litter awareness activity scheduled

A Sunrise Lake Mead Beach Cleanup will be held 6 a.m. at Boulder Beach Picnic Area and 6 a.m. at the Overton Beach Ranger Station Saturday. Park staff have organized litter awareness days throughout the summer, so join in on an early-morning litter pickup and walk. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead so an ample supply of bags and protective gloves will be available. Call 293-8990.

Native American flute concert planned

The Winchester Community Center will present a concert of Native American flute music at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 3130 S. McLeod Drive. Cost is $7 and $5 for seniors and students under 12. The event is co-sponsored by the Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation's Cultural Affairs Division. Call 455-7340.

Free seminar offered at UNLV

A free parenting seminar is being offered 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at UNLV in the Wright Hall. Simple formulas will be shared to help children listen, stop their arguing, take full responsibility and enthusiastically do their chores and ask for more. For reservations call 385-5331.

Store to host fashion show

Macy's, a platinum sponsor of the 1999 Miss Hispana Pageant, will host a fashion show to showcase pageant contestants at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Macy's Meadows Mall Level 1. For information about the pageant call 399-2727.

Youth programs held at Jones site

Clark County libraries hold a variety of special programs. Call ahead to find out which programs require pre-registration.

Cartoon and Comic Book Art -- Ages 8 and older can learn to create your own cartoons and are invited to watch a demonstration of how cartoon and comic book characters are made at 2 p.m. Saturday by an artist who has worked for a movie studio; Dance, Dance, Dance -- Ages 5 and older are invited to watch the Jennifer Sasso's Dance Troupe perform jazz, tap and ballet at 4 p.m. July 28. Both programs will be held at the Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.

Parents can sign up for health classes

The following classes are offered to new parents free at the University Medical Center/CCSN Family to Family Connection Center, 1807 W. Charleston Blvd. Parents can call 383-7058 to register:

Supplies of almost everything needed to make a great first aid kit will be provided and explained 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Parents can learn pediatric CPR from 6-10 p.m. July 29, with baby-sitting available.

Skin care course at Desert Springs Hospital

A skin care class will be offered 2-3 p.m. July 29 by Senior Advantage in the Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center, 2075 E. Flamingo Road. This is a free benefit program for adults 50 and older. Call 369-7911.

A Summer Swim Bash

A summer swim bash is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Garside Pool, 300 S. Torrey Pines. Call 878-8644.
