They also said on Monday that nine shots were fired at Glenn Sigford Sunde. The first two hit him in the head.
The officers involved are Darren Swetkovich, Dave Keller and Mike Lessman, all members of the SWAT team.
Deputy Chief Jim Weston said the three will undergo psychological evaluation to determine how lasting an impact the incident had on them.
Once certified, they'll be ready to return to duty. Paid leave is routine after a shooting.
Police were called to the home early last Thursday by a 911 hang up call.
Officers were called to the home again about a half-hour later when the woman returned after leaving the baby with a neighbor.
Efforts to negotiate with the suspect ended just before sunrise when Sunde, 37, started a fire in the kitchen and police heard the woman screaming.
They burst in and opened fire when Sunde threatened them and attempted to stab the woman, Lisa Kelly, in the head.
