Officials waiting for news on possible federal assistance

Gov. Kenny Guinn said there is only $1.8 million left in the state's disaster fund after the 1997 Washoe County floods. The recent floods in Las Vegas did an estimated $20.5 million in damage to public facilities.
"I'm staying optimistic that we will get a declaration," said Bob Andrews, director of the Clark County Division of Emergency Management.
"I just heard that it has been a real treadmill back there," he said, referring to the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C.
National FEMA officials are expected to make a recommendation to the president based on their review of a regional FEMA team's report on flood damage caused primarily by intense storms on July 8.
