Nevada lawmakers to attend Indianapolis conference
Tuesday, July 20, 1999 | 3:32 a.m.
The trip will cost an estimated $1,500 per lawmaker, in addition to the cost for 10 staff members of the Legislative Counsel Bureau to attend, said acting Counsel Bureau Director Bob Erickson.
Air fare, hotel, conference registration fees and pay of $130 a day was used in the estimated cost for each lawmaker. Actual costs for the trip will be determined after the conference when expenses are submitted by each lawmaker.
Some lawmakers have in the past paid for the cost of national conferences with their own money.
Money for lawmakers and staff travel to a limited number of national conferences is contained within the legislative budget.
The conference, which will run Saturday through July 28, is expected to draw about 5,000 lawmakers and their families from across the country.
Electric utility restructuring, crime, school violence, budget surpluses, managed care and the millennium computer bug are some of the topics that will be covered at the conference.
The meeting will be the last opportunity for many lawmakers to hear about plans for the 2000 census by the U.S. Census Bureau.
