Rebel Club pep rally scheduled
A "Senior Rebel Club Pep Rally Kickoff Party" will be from 1:30-3 p.m. Friday by the Sunrise Senior Friends in the Sunrise Hospital's Auditorium, 3164 S. Maryland Parkway. This will be an afternoon of fun and games. Learn about the new UNLV athletic facility renovations. Call 735-5510 to make required reservation.
Parenting class held at recreation center
The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and the Clark County Family and Youth Services Parenting Project will co-host "Families Back In Control" 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday through Aug. 26. The free course will be held at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson.
The goal of the six-week program is to maximize family strengths while reducing behavioral problems in children. For more information, call 455-5295.
Centers offer free shots to children
Health District immunization clinics are open each week in and around Las Vegas. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 36 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week: Wednesday through July 27.

NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 3262 Civic Center Drive, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
EOB NORTH LAS VEGAS WIC: 5A E. Tonopah Ave., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.
SOUTHWEST CHILD HEALTH CLINIC: Christ the King Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines & Tropicana Ave., noon-4 p.m., Friday.
FREMONT MEDICAL CLINIC: 4880 S. Wynn Road, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Immunizations free to anyone who walks in.

Donations of food, diapers needed
The Salvation Army is seeking donations of pasta, bags of beans, macaroni and cheese, baby formula and diapers. An upsurge in the number of needy families seeking services from the organization is threatening a shortage of certain items.
Contributions can be dropped off at 2900 Palomino Lane or 35 West Owens Ave. in Las Vegas or at 830 E. Lake Mead Road in Henderson.
Organization fills leadership post
Dean Collins, who recently spent six years as Bank of America's assistant vice president of public relations, has been named director of leadership giving at the United Way of Southern Nevada. Collins served as a loan executive in 1997 and chair of the marketing and promotions committee in 1998.
Grant to help build new shelter
The Shade Tree, Clark County's primary 24-hour emergency shelter for women and children, has received a $5 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The money will be used to construct and furnish a new shelter at Owens Avenue and Main Street.
Since opening in 1990, The Shade Tree has provided shelter and free services to more than 20,000 battered and homeless women and their children.
Six area residents given Rose Awards
Six Southern Nevada women have been honored with Rose Awards, which are given out by the Professional Black Women's Alliance. Winners included Deborah Willis for academic achievements; Barbara Jones for business achievements; Willie Mae Smith for community achievements; Jillian Williams for outstanding student; and Geraldine Starkey, the overall Rose Award winner.
The Professional Black Women's Alliance is a nonprofit organization that provides seminars and workshops for young women in the Las Vegas community.
Deputy director named to division
Ginny Lewis has been named deputy director of motor vehicles by John Drew, the director of the Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety. Lewis will oversee the newly reorganized Motor Vehicles Division. Lewis has been with the department for 20 years.
