Utility earnings get a boost

Customer growth and warm weather boosted Nevada Power Co.'s earnings for the second quarter.
The company that provides electricity to more than 1.4 million Las Vegas-area residents reported net income of $11.7 million or 23 cents per share, up 12.5 percent from the $10.4 million or 20 cents reported in 1998's second quarter.
Revenues were $237.9 million for the quarter ending June 30, up 19.6 percent from $198.9 million reported a year earlier.
The company said its annual customer growth rate for the past 12 months was 6 percent.
