The residents want to require the U.S. Postal Service to conduct an environmental analysis before moving its West Coast express mail sorting hub here from Oakland, Calif.
Residents complain the seven air cargo planes that would take off between midnight and 2 a.m. are noisy Boeing 727s - the same planes airport officials have lobbied airlines to do away with because of noise concerns.
The Postal Service plans to move the hub to Reno on Aug. 28. A third-party contractor to provide the planes and run the facility is to be hired later this month.
