Friday, July 16, 1999 | 9:53 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Fourteen schools and organizations throughout the state have received more than $20,000 from the Nevada Arts Council (NAC) to participate in the Artist in Residence Program for the 1999 -- 2000 school year.

The program provides matching funds for schools and organizations to work with professional artists in a wide variety of educational and cultural settings. From contemporary dance techniques to the ins-and outs of ceramics, students and teachers explore how the arts excite, inspire and enhance learning.

"The Artist in Residence Program is unique in that professional artists work both creatively and cooperatively with students, teachers and community members," said Laura Rawlings, coordinator of the Arts in Education Program for the Nevada Arts Council. "The artist becomes the center where imaginations and creative sparks ignite."

Thirty-two artists from the Arts in Education roster work with 14 Nevada schools and organizations including: Agnes Risley Elementary, Battle Mountain Arts Presenters, Churchill Arts Council, City of Henderson, Clark County Outreach, Comstock Arts Council, Fritsch Elementary, K.O. Knudson Middle School, Lincoln Arts Council, Moapa Valley Arts Council, Scarselli Elementary, Sierra Arts, Wells Family Resource Center and Yerington Theatre for the Arts.
