Quarterly earnings increase 7.1 percent

MINNEAPOLIS -- U.S. Bancorp, the nation's 13th largest bank and operator of banks in Nevada, said second quarter earnings rose 7.1 percent as loans and fee revenue rose.
Profit from operations rose to $383.8 million, or 53 cents a share, from $358.2 million, or 48 cents, a year earlier. The bank was expected to earn 54 cents a share.
Including merger-related charges, net income rose to $374.3 million, or 51 cents a share, from $320.6 million, or 43 cents, a year ago.
