Nevada bucks trend for revenues

While several states were reporting declines in film production revenues, Nevada saw an increase of more than 50 percent in the past fiscal year.
The Nevada Film Office reported more than $79 million in revenues and about 500 productions coming to Nevada between July 1, 1998, and June 30, 1999. Revenues for the previous fiscal year were $51 million.
Productions include movies, television shows, commercials and still photo shoots.
State officials attributed the increase to aggressive marketing and advertising tactics.
"Intergovernmental efforts and cooperation are also key factors to the success of bringing more production to Nevada and these relationships continue to grow stronger every year," Charles Geocaris, director of the Nevada Film Office, said.
Declines are occurring in other markets because several Hollywood productions find it less expensive to work in other countries, particularly Canada.
