Monday, July 12, 1999 | 9:32 a.m.
The Floriston fire was one of five that broke out around the same time Sunday along the Interstate-80 corridor in the Sierra. All but one was quickly extinguished.
The other four fires ranged from one to three acres in size.
Investigators termed the fires as suspicious.
The Floriston fire has blackened about 150 acres of timber and brush, fire spokeswoman Laurie Laursen said.
About 500 firefighters were working the fire lines. Twenty-four engines, five water tenders, two bulldozers, one air tanker and four helicopters were also battling the blaze, Laursen said.
No homes were damaged or destroyed and none were threatened.
