Search ends for Vegas man lost at Lake Mead

The National Park Service has stopped actively searching for a Las Vegas man who is presumed to have drowned Sunday night in the Boulder Canyon Narrows section of Lake Mead.

Roger Jacobson, 59, has been missing since 11:30 p.m. on Sunday when his Zodiac inflatable boat was punctured by a 22-foot Bayliner power boat, park service spokeswomen Kay Rohde said.

"Basically the active search is over," Rohde said. Rangers will continue to check for signs of Jacobson each morning, but with water in the area reaching depths of 300 to 400 feet, a more thorough search is all but impossible, she said.

Jacobson's boat had navigational lights, but they weren't on at the time of the accident. It is believed that Jacobson was thrown from his boat.

The body of a 49-year-old drowning victim from Las Vegas was found near the Government Wash area of the lake on Monday. Daniel L. Raxter drowned while attempting to swim across a cove to help his girlfriend, who had been blown across the cove on an inflatable raft, Rhode said. His girlfriend was unharmed.
