LV SAM’S Clubs, supercenters planned

Retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will add two SAM'S Club warehouse stores and three supercenter stores in the Las Vegas area.

SAM'S Club, a division of Wal-Mart open to shoppers with special annual memberships, will open stores next year.

In the spring, a store will open at a 625,000-square-foot shopping center anchored by Wal-Mart and Home Depot at Eastern Avenue south of the Southern Beltway.

Another is set for the 900,000-square-foot Centennial Centre, proposed at U.S. 95 and the future Northern Beltway at Northwest Town Center.

They will be the third and fourth SAM'S Club stores in Las Vegas.

Wal-Mart also next year will open three supercenters, which range from 109,000 to 220,000 square feet and sell groceries as well as department store merchandise.

Sites have been acquired at Sunset and Marks streets in Henderson, Craig Road and Nellis Boulevard and Centennial Parkway and U.S. 95.

"Supercenters are a very popular format with our customers," said Daphne Davis, a company spokeswoman who is in Las Vegas today.

Wal-Mart currently operates seven discount department stores here.
