Letter: Auto insurance rates discriminatory

Las Vegans pay some of the most expensive insurance rates in the nation. As I found out, I am a huge risk to these insurance companies, thus I am made to pay much, much more than other drivers on the road.

I am a male, early 20s, bought a 1995 pickup, no tickets, no accidents, live in my townhome, took both a high school and a yearly DMV-approved defensive driving course, graduated high school with a GPA of 3.0 and have a college bachelor's degree with a 4.0 average.

The range of my insurability ranges from $3,130 to over $9,965 yearly! My fault is being young, male and unmarried. Understanding that insurance companies rate on risk, why don't they allow me to use my own driving record, my training, my responsibilities, instead of grouping me in with incapable and irresponsible drivers in my ZIP code?

Discrimination, the creation of a social, economic or other hardship based upon certain individual characteristics, is never more evident than in the auto insurance industry. When I have accidents or start collecting traffic tickets, then make me pay more, however do not discriminate based on my age, sex, socio-economic standing and marital status.
