Some 5,000 attend second governor’s ball
Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999 | 9:25 a.m.
The number surpassed the 2,800 who attended a similar event in Reno Friday night.
Guinn and his wife, Dema, led a formal procession kicking off the evening at the MGM Grand Hotel's new conference center. The MGM was the sponsor for the evening's festivities. Others in the procession included members of the Nevada Legislature, state Supreme Court justices and other elected officials.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by The McGuire Sisters, who were performing at the old Riverside Hotel in Reno when the Guinns were married there 42 years ago.
Music was provided by the Jean White Orchestra.
Joe Willians sang the National Anthem.
John Daly, star of the television show "Real TV," was master of ceremonies for the evening.
