Executive Director Krys Bart said the airport's 10-year, $384 million project should be delayed for a year to see how the northern Nevada economy performs.
The move is a reprieve for residents of a nearby neighborhood. Rewana Farms residents have been fighting airport plans to buy out their homes to make way for expansion.
"I don't know if this is an answer to our prayers but we hope so," said resident Mona Barnett. "I would never want the economy to go down to allow us to stay."
