Jauregui will stay at Rancho, after all

Rancho High School principal Ernie Jauregui says he will stay at Rancho, easing the minds of some parents who feared he would transfer to another school.
Jauregui was slated to be transferred at the Clark County School Board's regular meeting Jan. 14. He was to be moved to one of the district's Horizon High Schools.
But a group of vocal parents and students told the board at that meeting that they wanted him to stay, so the board delayed making a decision on the transfer.
"After what happened, I figured this is where I should stay," Jauregui said Thursday.
The School Board, not Jauregui, ultimately has the power to decide if he stays or goes, so it wasn't clear after the Jan. 14 meeting if he would remain at Rancho. But board president Ruth Johnson on Thursday said Jauregui will stay put.
"We're going to leave him there at the request of the community and address some of the other staffing concerns that they have brought before us," Johnson said.
Jauregui, a 24-year district veteran, has been Rancho principal since 1994.
