Health care complex delayed by planners

The future of a new emergency care facility in Henderson will have to wait a little longer to be decided.
The Henderson Planning Commission Thursday tabled plans for the proposed Horizon Health Care Center until the applicant, R & S Development, can ease concerns of planners over emergency vehicle access and hours of operation.
Planning staff had recommended denial of the project going into Thursday's meeting.
The center would be located on three lots on 10 acres at 1203 West Horizon Ridge Parkway, at the corner of Horizon ridge and Viento Puntero, in the McCullough Hills area. Viento Puntero has only an 80-foot right-of-way, which planners feel is not adequate for emergency vehicle access.
The center also was originally slated to be a 24-hour facility, but plans might be revamped to allow only limited hours.
The Horizon Health Center is designed to include a 120-bed convalescent hospital, a 6,000 square-foot emergency health care facility and 44,000 square feet of medical offices, according to staff reports.
Also on the agenda Thursday, commissioners approved plans for the Horizon Commercial Center at 2491 West Horizon Ridge Parkway, in the Green Valley Ranch area. Located on 2.1 acres, the retail center would consist of a commercial building and 24-hour convenience store with gasoline sales.
The Planning Commission Thursday also voted for denial of the proposed 60-suite Henderson Assisted Living Facility at 1050 East Lake Mead Drive, in the Valley View area.
The commission voiced concerns that the 2.8-acre facility, being developed by Henderson Ventures, would be intrusive to the surrounding residential area.
'I think that this (decision) is just a matter of how far we are going to extend nonresidential property and what impact it will have on the (nearby) single-family homes," Commission Vice-Chairman George Bochanis said.
The next Planning Commission meeting is for Feb.11.
