There's more to see when taking a hike
Programs for February at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area include hikes and walks. All programs are free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs. Some programs include the following:
Calico Canyon Hike: Look for animals, plants and evidence fo ancient people on this four mile moderately strenuous hike Monday.
Introduction to Red Rock: This introductory hike and program at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center will help you find out what makes this area unique. This program will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Desert Kitchen/Desert Pharmacy: Discover how Native Americans survived in the area on this two mile moderate walk through the Lost Creek and Willow Springs area Tuesday.
First Creek Adventure: Explore the first waterfall of the year and other "firsts" on this four mile moderate hike Wednesday. There will be several large boulders to navigate around so good hiking boots are recommended.
Islands of Diversity: Small springs nurture wildlife and vegetation to life in a hostile desert environment. Look for plants and see how water shape and influence the desert environment on this short, but rocky, hike Saturday.
Tanks for the View: Calico Trail Hike. Join in on this 2 1/2 mile moderately strenuous hike Saturday to a pair of (hopefully) water-filled basins. Some rock scrambling is involved.
Visitor Center: 363-1922. Programs may be changed or canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
