Brief: Public meetings set on Summerlin project
Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 | 12:01 p.m.
The next phase of Summerlin development will be in the area bounded by Charleston Boulevard, Sahara Avenue, Hualapai Way and Desert Foothills Drive.
It includes residential, retail, commercial, entertainment and resort components.
Hughes said the concept of a town center is for residents to be able to walk from home to stores, entertainment, dining and work.
The developer will seek county approval for outdoor retail sales and dining, kiosk vendors and festival retailing like exhibits, arts and craft sales and farmers' markets. A park would include an amphitheater, gymnasium and day care. Hughes is seeking variances to build higher than usual commercial buildings and residences over retail businesses along a "main street."
Hughes envisions this town center becoming the heart of Summerlin and the primary retail, employment and entertainment center for the west side of the Las Vegas metro area.
Hughes has called town meetings for residents to present the plans. They are Feb. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m., Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon and Feb. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. Meetings are at the Willows Community Center, 2275 Desert Marigold Lane.
