StumbleMan convicted of sexual assault

Chris Wayne Carmichael, 37, burst into tears when the Washoe District Court jury verdict was read Friday. He faces a mandatory life sentence for the crime.
The molestation occurred over a three-year period ending in 1992 when the girl was 6 years old. A warrant was issued for his arrest after the child reported the acts when she was 8.
Carmichael was arrested in Texas in 1996, and surrendered to Reno authorities while on bail several months later.
The jury deliberated 90 minutes before reaching the verdict. Washoe District Judge Peter Breen will set a sentencing date at a hearing Monday.
