Letter: Stance on Clinton’s lie hypocritical
Friday, Jan. 22, 1999 | 10:03 a.m.
In this context I might say anybody who supports the Republican Party is a "hypocrite lover." In fact, hypocrisy is really a form of lying, anyway. I suppose the aforementioned writer can swear (under oath) that he has never told a lie and he might be surprised to learn that filing even a slightly erroneous tax return is perjury, as well as making false statements on a divorce deposition.
The fact is most of these examples of perjury are never investigated, let alone prosecuted, except in relation to getting somebody that can't be successfully prosecuted for more serious crimes. Because perjury is hard to prove, why clog the courts with perjury cases over minor situations only to lose anyway? Consequently, most perjury charges are dropped or plea bargained.
I am sure whatever perjury, if any, committed by President Clinton over a consensual sexual affair would be thrown in the nearest wastebasket of any honest and serious prosecutor. However, I would be willing to see all these perjury charges be prosecuted if Clinton's is.
In fact they should be because, as Republicans keep saying, "no man is above the law!"
I say thank God for Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, John Conyers, Jim Carville and yes, even Larry Flynt, who is no more a pornographer than Ken Starr or Henry Hyde.
