UNR gets $100,000 grant from Barrick Goldstrike Mines

The money will be used to attract top students excelling in math or sciences. The idea is to help train them in the latest technology and graduate them into work in Nevada's second largest industry.

"We are immensely grateful to Barrick for the significant demonstration of their commitment to the future of the Mackay School of Mines," Dean Jane C.S. Long said.

Llee Chapman, Barrick manager of administrative services, said the industry "needs the products from this school - students properly trained to become mining professionals - so that we can continue to produce the mineral products demanded by our society."
